Mantras
Mantra is a syllable or string of syllables, from Sanskrit language. Mantras may or may not conform to grammatical rules and their use varies with the school and philosophy associated with the mantra. They are primarily used as spiritual conduits, words and vibrations that instill one-pointedness in the devotee. Other purposes have included religious ceremonies to accumulating wealth, avoiding danger, or eliminating enemies.
Pt. Sharma has done great meditation on various mantras and he explains how mantras are the greatest tools for creating a balance between the human mind, body, spirit and the environment. He terms Mantra Vigyan as the most natural and yet the most scientific of all practices, even more than modern science because modern science omits the factor of consciousness on which mantras score higher.
However, mantras require great discipline and can only bring results when an individual has risen to the frequency on which the mantras can affect their corresponding objects. One first needs to connect with the lineage through which the particular mantra has descended to our level of existence and this can only be attained with the help of a Guru. Then one needs to have the optimum level of energy passing through the chakra to which the mantra is supposed to correspond. Hence, again the chakras need to be activated along with a stillness of mind and gems are the easiest resort even though Mantra Vigyan stands highest amongst all practices.
